Pharaohs, Gods and Political Connections: Egypt 1390-1213 BC (Amenhotep III to Ramses the Great)
In this video we'll continue our journey through the history of Egyptian civilization, and the universe more broadly. Picking up where we left off in the last video of this series, Egypt had entered the Near Eastern political scene and now Amenhotep III came to power. We'll see Egypt transform their relationship with Hatti into something more positive, and how one Pharaoh insisted on the worship of Aten (Solar disk deity) at the expense of the other deities, perhaps most particularly Amun. This turn was short lived, but despie their efforts, Egypt left a changed being, perhaps most easily apparent in their literary-language change. Under Ramses the Great, antagonisms with Hatti peaked with the Battle of Kadesh, but they soon settled into more peaceful ways under Ramses reign.
