After throwing the juicer on the potters wheel I'll wait for the clay to get leather hard. Using a chuck is necessary as the wall of the juicer is a lot shorter then the center juicer nub. The one I use is a bisqued piece, but you can also throw a chuck on the wheel at the same time as the juicer and allow it to firm up while the juicer does the same.
I also brush on a layer of porcelain slip so that the white glaze won't be muted by the dark clay.
