Update: I'm not sure how useful this is with 1.18 & up overworld terrain generation - it was great when you only needed to build 8 machines to clear down to bedrock, but I don't know how well this would work with the additional levels of lava generation.
These were designed for finishing the last few layers in a perimeter: you still have to remove obsidian, clear high-level water/lava pockets, and clean up the edges manually, but if you’re willing to AFK a while you only need to build a few simple machines to make a perimeter.
