Evie Sands – “Picture Me Gone” (Cameo) 1966

Brooklyn born, Evie Sands, released her first disc on ABC in 1963. She followed with a Jackie eShannon song, “I Was Moved” on Gold Records Incorporated. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller signed her to their Blue Cat label, where she cut such gems as “I Can’t Let Go” and “Take Me For A Little While”. However, these were covered by the Hollies and Jackie Ross respectively (although Chess Records recalled Jackie’s version).
Moving to Cameo, Evie cut “Picture Me Gone” and “Angel Of The Morning”. This time covers appeared from the UK’s Madeline Bell and Merilee Rush. Merrilee’s version of “Angel Of The Morning” reached #7 in 1968. She joined A&M in 1968 and got her first Hot-100 entry with “Anyway That You Want Me” in 1969.
The 70s saw her with Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter’s Haven label where she scored a couple of Hot-100 entries. She has continued to record on and off through to today.
