Online meetings: can be SO tiring!
Although relaxing into your Office Chair to attend a meeting doesn't sound very taxing there is such a thing as Zoom Fatigue. But why?
Some Reasons are:
💬 Natural interaction has greatly diminished
😤 We're trying to pick up on non-verbal cues which are really difficult when you can only see a small section
📽️ We also feel as if we're on the spot we're in the limelight and not many of us like that makes us feel a bit anxious
🥀 The atmosphere can be a bit dry and a bit lifeless
📡 When internet connection is poor and people freeze we actually blame that person and we naturally think they're rude and we get very frustrated.
💡 Solutions 💡
❌ Does the meeting HAVE TO take place? Most are surplus to requirements. Go old school with a phone call or an email
📴 Could we just switch off the camera? A lot of people find this really helpful. Plus don't make a thing of it if someone has decided to do this. Respect it and move on.
👀 If a camera meeting is needed, simply change the angle of the camera slightly so that it is more to the side. It's a very effective way to stop the feeling you are being interrogated.
📝 Between meetings, plan breaks. This allows you a buffer which gives you time for meetings to overrun but also allows you a break; time to refuel, make notes and plan for the next meeting
⌛ Get the best out of you and your colleagues by planning a break IN A MEETING. Aim for a small break every 25 minutes and it'll make the meeting more productive and effective! I promise you!
That said, Online meetings have a lot of positives, especially since covid such as:
🏥 Keeping some businesses alive
🕑 Saving us time
💰 Saving us money
🌱 Saving the environment with our carbon footprint far reduced and;
❤️ Personally they've allowed us to reconnect with our loved ones
