Transcript:
A derivative of the Advice Animal Image Macro that includes a Pokemon pickup line and hand drawn image of a Brazilian Ash Ketchum over a yellow and teal pinwheel of color commonly known as "Dat Ash". The text reads "Ay girl, you Butterfree up your schedule cuz I'll Beedrillin' you all week". The Dat Ash meme was originally created from an image showing a young man looking creepy uploaded to the now defunct website myfacewhen.com back in 2010. Myfacewhen.com was an early content aggregator where classic reaction images were posted. The image was then illustrated and posted on the Portuguese website Cao Ninja on February 2nd, 2011 thus creating the exploitable meme Ash Pedreiro. Pedreiro, which means mason or brick layer in Portuguese, which have a reputation in Brazil for being overtly and aggressively sexual towards women common to the American construction worker catcalling passerbys. In May of 2011 the meme spread to North America and was posted to Reddit and went viral, being altered from the base template with a large assortment of overtly sexual and insinuating puns and pickup lines featuring the names of Pokemon. Sites like BuzzFeed and Smosh featured the very best of Dat Ash memes in their own collections soon after to capitalize on the buzz. This meme is similar to another advice animal known as Pickup Line Panda, and overall the meme had largely died down by 2014.

However pokemon pickup lines have been around for much longer with dedicated blogs and an entirely different format. Removed from the lewd background these are often more charming and less sexual. Pokemon memes, or as their commonly known, pokememes have largely fallen out of vogue yet were a dominant force in memes in the early 2010s. These included the pokepuns of 2009 which riffed on the allusionary device Rebus (a puzzle that uses illustrated pictures with individual letters to depict words or phrases), I heard you liek Mudkipz, and the results of the pokemon Fusion generator which as of 2019 have had a resurgence. If you want to know more check out the Know Your Meme page dedicated to pokemon memes, they've done a lot more research on the topic than I could ever hope to do the link to this video and the entry is in the description.
