APD Officers Find a Home Burglar Hiding in the Brush
Summary: On August 31st, 2024, at approximately 10:25AM, officers responded to Brookline Street SW in reference to a residential burglary. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the reporting party who stated that an unidentified male had forced his way through a locked crawl space door in the rear of property and stole a number of building materials including copper piping/wiring. The reporting party advised that he caught the suspect in the act, however, the suspect managed to flee from the scene prior to the arrival of officers. The reporting party provided several photographs of the suspect to the responding officers and after receiving that information, the officers then canvassed the surrounding area.
After a brief search, officers were able to locate the suspect hiding in the high brush of a small field nearby. Officers were also able to recover the stolen items and other evidence which was located inside of a shopping cart in a nearby wooded area. The officers placed the suspect, later identified as 57-year-old Johnny Peeples, into custody where he was charged with Burglary (1st Degree), Criminal Damage to Property (2nd Degree), Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime, Criminal Trespass, and Misdemeanor Obstruction. Mr. Peeples was transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
