All of the Barbara Steele moments with a few naughty seconds chopped (sorry, it was the very Cronenbergian, uh, creature swap?). An original scream diva in a tidy but crucial supporting role as Betts, the drinkingest gal on the block: single and not ready to mingle, until. . . .
The director's quintessential skepticism of postmodern society is underpinned by the metaphors of the Sexual Revolution and the claustrophobia of an ultra-contemporary high rise. A freshman effort, it still manages to deconstruct the genre and project a style of directorial intellect well beyond its B-movie façade.
1975. Starring Lynn Lowry, Joe Silver, Allan Kolman, Paul Hampton, Susan Petrie. Music sup. Ivan Reitman.
