"Arrayed for the Bridal." Horses are harnessed in one of the great metaphors of modern English amid the banter of bel canto. The peeking camera revealing the repressed and tormented memories of lost lands and husbands, winter sisters, and a rosary laid out in 'M' for the Morkins but also Mary: the faith. All this as an old woman ironically sings of being a bride and attempts to recapture her young voice from the past. John Huston's last; and, as much as we complain "the book is better than the movie," this adaptation sings.
