There are times when we do not want to use VLOOKUP or the Index Match combination to join datasets. Excel provides you the ability to Merge datasets through the Data tab. You just need to Get the Data then Merge based on Unique Identifier that is the same across datasets. The Merge will not work if the Unique ID differs. In this video example, County level datasets were obtained from the American Community Survey (2021) to grab Total Population and GINI Inequality Index, Health Outcomes, and Violent Crime Rates (only for Arkansas). The Unique ID across these three different datasets is the FIPS (geographical identifier). The FIPS provides a unique value for each state and county combination.
