If you've been working at home during the pandemic, which if you work in a public facing role, you likely will be, you may have noticed the 'Desk Hunch' sneaking in. Spending hours at a time in a fixed seated position, can cause tension through the shoulders, neck and may affect your lower back and hamstrings. This EASE sequence is the first of two practices, designed to help work out those pesky knots and bring movement back. You could even bust this out in your lunch break, as it's only 20 minutes long.
A small word of caution, at the beginning of class, we start by lying flat. Recommendations are to sleep on your side to reduce the risk of still birth. Short periods of exericse lying flat have not been shown to be harmful, but as always with these classes, please listen to what feels right in your body. If you begin to feel lightheaded or nauseous, please roll to your left side and skip this part of the class.
Part 2 FLOW sequence, will be coming soon, so stay tuned. This will be a more dynamic and challenging sequence that pairs nicely with this class if you're after a longer practice.
Yoga in pregnancy offers fantastic benefits to your health and wellbeing. It can help with strength and toning and help prevent excessive weight gain in pregnancy and unlike other forms of exercise can bring positive benefits for your mental health, bringing a sense of calm and relaxation in to your day.
Group classes may advise against practice prior to 12 weeks, this is not because yoga should cause any harm to your baby, but due to the increased risk of miscarriage in the first trimester, which exists in all pregnancies. Please bear this in mind when deciding to carry out your practice.
