Parallel Inverter With Feedback Diodes : Working And Output Waveforms

Due to the use of Centre Tapped Transformer it is also called as Centre tapped Inverter.

The SCRs S1 and S2 are switched alternately to connect DC supply across the two halves of Transformer.
Voltage commutation used.

L1 and C are commutating components.

D1 and D2 are feedback diodes
To feedback load reactive power to supply
To feedback stored energy of L1 and C to Load

Merits
V0 does not depend on load as in series inverter.

It is simple and economic circuit

With filter at output, it is possible to obtain good quality sine wave.

Commutation components don’t have to carry entire load current.

With the help of feedback diodes, the load reactive power is fed back to source to improve efficiency.

The frequency of V0 is independent of load, it depends on the triggering frequeny of the thyristors.

Demerits
It uses center tapped transformer, the efficiency of inverter is reduced.

Possibility of magnetic saturation of the core at low frequencies.

Circuit is suitable to handle only fixed loads.

Inductive load may reduce the commutation angle to such a low limit that the circuit may become oscillatory and commutation failure may occur

Transient oscillations cause serious stresses in thyristors.

The switching transients are superimposed on output voltage.
