In Half bridge inverter square wave AC output voltage is produced
The load used in this circuit can resistive load or R-L load

In this circuit simply by controlling the gating drive signal frequency or Time period can be controlled
The gating circuit is designed such that the switches S1 & S2 should not turn ON at same time.

Diodes D1 & D2 which are called as feed back diodes don't play any role in half bridge inverter with resistive load.
But with R-L load the current is not in phase with voltage therefore ,these diodes connected in antiparallel with thyristors will allow the current to flow when main thyristors are turned off

The main drawback of this inverter is that it requires 3 wire dc supply which can be overcome by the use of Full Bridge Inverter.

Half Bridge Inverter is Voltage source inverter in which the switches are closed for half period of time.

Thus the operation of circuit is divided into 2 periods

Period 1 :
Switch S1 conducts for 0 to T/2

Period 2 :
Switch S2 conducts for T/2 to T

Period 2 : Switch S2 conducts for T/2 ≤t ≤ T

Switch S2 is closed for time T/2 and point N is connected with A point.

Current I0 starts flow through the R Load in reverse direction and load voltage also reverses its polarity.

I0 = - VS /2R

V0 = - VS /2
