How Do You Attract Links Before You Have Reputation?
Years ago, +Mike Grehan (another true veteran marketer) wrote a superb article entitled "The Filthy Linking Rich", where he explained how the same sort of power law that applies to other resources, such as wealth, apply just as much to links. Just as the rich get richer, so do those with lots of links get more exposure, and thus attract more links.
We'll discuss that power law briefly, but mainly we'll focus on how to overcome it. How do we attract links to a site that is newer, or has so far been seen as less authoritative (its cited less often)?
This topic naturally follows from last week where we discussed Starting New Online Ventures, and has a strong relationship to getting that new venture up and running. As always, expect some wonderful food for thought, and many practical insights.
