Beyond Keywords: Moving From Words to Concepts with +Peter Hatherley and +Doc Sheldon
We all know that keywords are generally not quite as 'key' as they used to be. Google's Hummingbird update has lead to us all noticing a lot more semantic matching to the concepts we search for, rather than the precise wording. This week, #isoosichat will discuss this shift in more detail, and explore how we deal with these changes.
+Peter Hatherley is fascinated by the semantic connections in words and language. He'll be helping us look at the broader and sometimes less obvious connections between words and concepts.
+Doc Sheldon returns again, always a welcome guest, Doc has said before that he's long moved away from the old method of using keywords into far more diverse and natural language writing around the concept.
With the help of these guests, and +Bill Slawski's incredible knowledge of the papers and patents of the search engines, we'll look at where the 'best practices' of today should be, and talk about ways to better appeal to semantic search algorithms.
We'll also discuss places where keywords (in the old sense of them) still matter, and why. Places where exact matching of terms is important.
