Japan launched the Southern Operation, prepared for all-out war with the United States.
But surprisingly few in Japan's leadership believed in victory.
Why, then, did Japan have no choice but to start a war?
What on earth made Japan so anxious?
"If a rising power is doing well, it is safe."
However, if a rising power feels its heyday is coming to an end, that is when it is most vulnerable.
This principle of war still applies today.
