Welcome to Sir ML's Biology, in this video, we take a closer look at how glycogen is broken down into glucose in this process of glycogenolysis. In this biochemical pathway, glycogen which is a complex molecule that is made up of numerous repeating units of alpha D-glucose is broken down into simple singular units of glucose to provide us with much needed energy during periods of prolonged starvation. Glycogen is the storage form of glucose in animals and it is mostly stored in the liver and muscle tissues.
