The process of formation of male gametes/sex cells is called Spermatogenesis. Welcome to Sir ML's Biology, in this video with detailed explanation, we will take a closer look at what happens inside the testes, and how the spermatozoa/sperm are formed through various steps/phases of the process of spermatogenesis. Like oogenesis, this process has similar phases, a multiplication phase, when spermatogonia divide and multiply, a growth phase, in which the spermatogonia grows and accumulates nourishment to become a primary spermatocytes, and a maturation phase that involves the chromosome number reduction when primary spermatocytes becomes secondary spermatocytes and spermatids, with an additional phase of transformation called spermiogenesis, in which spermatids differentiates into a physiologically mature sperm/spermatozoa. Spermatogenesis is regulated by the hormones GnRH, FSH, LH and testosterone.
