What is Productivity in Ecology?
Welcome to Sir ML's Biology, this is a video explanation of productivity in ecology, Productivity is the efficiency of production and productivity in ecology is the rate at which energy is transformed into organic matter, i.e. how much of the available resources are assimilated and converted into the organic biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and so on. Productivity in ecology is subdivided into two types, Primary productivity and Secondary productivity. Primary productivity is further subdivided into Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) and Net Primary Productivity (NPP). Productivity can be measured as units of mass per unit volume or area per unit time. Some of the most productive ecosystems are estuaries,, swamps, marshes, tropical rain forests, and coral reefs.
