I’m a writer from west-central Illinois whose work has been published by Boss Fight Books, Disney, Fangoria magazine, IGN, PC Gamer, RogerEbert.com, Rolling Stone. I’ve written and talked a lot about games like Morrowind, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout, Friday the 13th: The Game, Night in the Woods, and other big favorites. Today, I’m gonna cover a game I’ve adored ever since it was released—though I’ve never had the chance to write about or discuss it in-depth. It’s a work by Remedy Entertainment, and probably not the first you think of when you hear that studio’s name. April 5 marks the game’s 10-year anniversary.

An earlier, audio-only version of this essay, “Time as a Frozen Ocean: Remedy’s Quantum Break Revisited,” was released as part of the Fun & Games Podcast’s “Side Quests” series in late 2025. I’ve rerecorded it with their permission. Music courtesy of GameChops.
