How to check AC or DC Current with a multimeter?
Multimeter setting: Insert Black probe at common Jack and Red probe at Current (mA or A) input terminal jack we must not use 'V' (voltage) input jack,
Identify the Current (mA or A) symbol on the dial, mA represents milliamperes and A represents Ampers for low and high current measurements respectively, and turn the dial to that position.
The multimeter powers up in AC amperes symbol appears on the display, If you want to change into DC amperes mode, then press the SHIFT button.
The maximum current rating a meter can handle is written near the Amps and milliAmps sockets, Don't exceed this level, otherwise excess current will damage the fuses inside the meter.
Before measuring the current, First we must check the correctness of the fuses inside the DMM, To do this, Turn the dial to any position other than Amps and milliamps position, Multimeter must display the words "LEAD" and must emit a beeping sound. Otherwise, the fuses inside the DMM are blown out, We cannot proceed without replacing the fuses.
My Advice: Always take amps reading first and if the current reading is in milliamperes, then only you can shift your multimeter to milliamperes mode.
Follow all safety procedures before taking the measurements.
If we want to measure the current flowing through any circuit, We must connect Multimeter in series with the circuit. So we have to create a break from one end of the circuit.
After creating a break in the circuit, Connect the test probes to the breakpoints, this makes the Multimeter in series with the circuit.
If you switch on the circuit now, The Multimeter will display the current reading.
