How to measure DC voltage with a multimeter?
Multimeter setting: Insert Black probe at common Jack and Red probe at Voltage input terminal jack,
Identify the D/C voltage symbol on the dial and turn the dial to that position,
The multimeter powers up and the D/C voltage symbol appears on the display.
Most multimeters power up in Auto range mode, It can automatically select the best range based on the voltage present on the test probes,
For a manual range multimeter always set the next highest range for the measurement.
Follow all safety procedures before taking measurement,
Connect test leads to the circuit, Black lead first and Red lead second, we can see the D/C voltage reading on the display.
If you connect the leads in reverse order, It doesn't matter, the Meter will show negative symbol.
A small variation in reading may indicate trouble, Please refer manufacturer's specifications.
Manual Range: If we press the Range button, The meter enters into Manual range mode, and now the user needs to select the best range for his measurement.
It is to be noted that the higher the range we select the lower the accuracy in reading.
The auto range can be restored by continuously pressing the Range button for more than 2 seconds.
Hold Function: If we press the hold button with the meter still connected to the circuit, then the meter captures and locks the measurement on the display. So we can view the measurement after disconnecting the meter from the circuit.
Always pay attention to the characters in the display. If small 'm' appears on the display, that means multimeter displaying millivolts.
