Still Life Oil painting Lesson - How to paint a Red Apple - Artist and Painter Knut Andre Vikshåland
• Still Life Oil painting Lesson - How to pa...
In this video you see me start out with at all a diverse color specter.
I do use quit strong oil colors and I gues there is a “secret” expressionist and impressionist in me somewere 😉
As I keep working the apple slowly changes both shape and color, and you see how I start to change the painting as I go along. At some point, I am so frustrated that I almost start giving up, but I pull myself back from the brink and make myself slow down painting it step by step. In this video you will probably feel my pain when I can’t get it right and I guess some of you will empathize with me as you probably experience some of the same pain yourself while painting. Giving up is never a good solution and to work myself trough this gave me an even bigger price when finished and on top of that I probably moved my “ skill wall “ to I higher level . Remember painting figurative is like a science and to do great science one has to go deep in to the task to figure out how to get to the substance of the problems. As usual, I highly recommend doing this kind of still life painting and when one also only focus on one object and go beyond the easy sketch and in to the sculptural, that is where you really get to know who good you really are. Anyone can make something look lie an apple or another object, our brains are wired to interpret shapes and put them in to categories. However, to get to the substance of an object one has to go deep. Try to paint portraits of your objects and remember you do not have to try to be an artist, the artist is already in you, you just have to do the work to pull him or her out from within

I am a Norwegian artist and painter that creates youtube videos about how to make oil painting . on this channel i manly focus on oil paint and how to use brushes , oil painting medium , oil colors , how to mix oil paint , how to use the palette :) In this oil painting tutorial I show you how to build textures and use brushes to create different property’s in different objects like red onion and how to create the evolution of physical room by the use of oil colors and how i sketch with oil colors directly on the canvas. I do use a more impressionist painting technique in this oil painting but in Principe it is the same painting process it only depends how deep one go in to detail. In this painting, I choose to keep it more open and rougher. I use mainly old Holland oil colors because the colors are thick and has a lot of color pigment in them, something that give me a greater specter to work in. Painting still life’s is one of the most important things when it comes to evolve as a painter and I highly recommend it, remember still life’s is not going anywhere and are your free model, it is also great training in understanding rom and to train the brain in seeing depth colors and textures If you like to support my artwork and oil painting lessons creation feel free to do a onetime donation or become a patron Thank you :) All my paintings is done freehand and with mainly old holand paint And more at : IF YOU SIGN UP AS A PATREON FEEL FREE TO ADD ME ON FACEBOOK :)
