Herbert Rommel was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1915, and served as a captain in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oklahoma. He describes the day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in great detail and how he survived the sinking of the USS Oklahoma. He goes on to describe life on the USS Oklahoma, the ship's history, and the USS Oklahoma Association, of which he was a member. Rommel also mentions his career throughout World War II and as a life-long naval officer after that, during which he taught at the War College, was on the staff of Sinklab fleet, and finished as Chief of Staff at Newport.
