Marjorie Smith was born in Glendale, California October 30, 1945. She attended several schools in California until they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1959. She continued her education in home study and got her diploma in 1974. She discusses her job at A&W and getting married in Las Vegas and visiting the casinos afterward. Marjorie talks about practical jokes that were played by her parents and a pastor who stole their car while living in Corpus Christie, Texas. She moved back to Bartlesville in 1969 and was a stay at home mom until she divorced and got a job at TG&Y. She was in charge of the men's department. She went on to work with Visiting Angels, a service which provides home care, not medical care. Marjorie explains that they would do housework, cleaning, and preparing meals. She worked as the office manager for Visiting Angels where she helped find jobs for people, scheduling,and taking calls from caregivers. She discusses some of the experiences she had and talks about coverage of the service. She worked with Visiting Angels for two years until her father's Alzheimer's progressed to the point where he needed additional care. She talks about the care he was given at a hospice facility and the lack of support for families with Alzheimer's patients. At the time of the interview, Marjorie was with the Senior Community Service Employment Program, training at Westside Community Center doing computer and phone work.
