Jim Stallings was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and he enlisted in the US Navy in January of 1940. He relates his experiences at Navy boot camp in Norfolk, Virginia, as well as those regarding daily life on the battleship USS Oklahoma. Stallings was on board the USS Oklahoma at the time of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. He describes his escape from the sinking ship in detail.
