This session will introduce a new approach called Connected Learning and Integrated Course Knowledge (CLICK). This approach is an ongoing research project that is funded by an NSF grant. The approach leverages Virtual Reality (VR) technology to integrate knowledge across the Industrial Engineering (IE) curriculum. The VR is used to build virtual environments that represent real life systems. The virtual environments provide a theme to connect the knowledge within the IE curriculum and real-life applications. The presentation will highlight the current results of our research on the impact of the CLICK approach on students learning, motivation, and engineering identity. The CLICK approach is hypothesized to improve students’ learning performance and enhance students’ identity as engineers; this, in turn, could translate to a STEM pipeline for the future workforce.
