Spiritual Successor | octatrack
This track began life as an R&D project for an Octatrack video on generative melodies - • Octatrack: Generative Melodies w/out MIDI
The bass line is created from a single cycle waveform from adventure kid waveforms (a saw wave, which may or may not be wildly obvious, haha). The original version of this bass sound was re-sampled to create the lead line, There is one sample I got from a free sample pack posted to reddit, (https://tinyurl.com/yboohjyr) consisting solely of 'snaps', and all the other samples are stock from the octatrack. I challenged myself a bit on this to a very minimalist approach, trying to squeeze a lot out of a small amount of musical material and encouraged myself to be economical with performance gestures. I utilized only two patterns, which have very minor differences other than the lead. I actually had a spare track on the octatrack, and I considered adding something vocal, but I quite liked this as a stripped-down instrumental and I wanted to capture it in time for Hardware Jam's single box challenge this weekend.
