NTU Guitar Ensemble's annual concert Nocturne 2024, held at The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC) on 23 March 2024.
Composed by Argentine tango legend Carlos Gardel, with lyrics by Alfredo Le Pera, this iconic tango tune tells the story of a man who likens his feelings of fancy for a woman to his addiction to horse-racing gambling. The piece employs features of traditional tango music, such as using solo instruments alongside a main ensemble or orchestra playing. The slow, steady pace combined with a distinct, powerful melody, provide Por Una Cabeza with a subtle sense of drama and whimsy. It was featured in a famous tango scene in Martin Brest's film "Scent of a Woman", making it one of the most famous tango music.
