Baroque-style Funiculi Funicula - Luigi Denza | NTU Guitar Ensemble

The original Funiculi Funicula is a classic nineteenth-century composition by Italian composer, Luigi Denza. The lyrics, written by journalist Peppino Turco, tell the story of a young man who compares the woman he loves to a volcano. Hayakawa Masaaki has reimagined the song to be more “baroque,” pairing a steady, rhythmic pulse, with upbeat melody and harmony lines. The piece also features sudden fluctuations in volume, also known as ‘terraced dynamics’ – another defining feature of Baroque music.
