The Beatles: Till There Was You Full Instrumental Cover
I love how The Beatles arrange their albums as one song is a complete rocker, and then the next is a slow mellow one. "It isn't rhythm and blues. It's not exactly rock 'n' roll. It's their own special sound, or, as group leader Lennon puts it, 'Our music is just - well, our music' " (Meet The Beatles! back cover). "Till There Was You" was originally written by Meredith Wilson for musical, "The Music Man." The Beatles first attempt at recording "Till There Was You" was on January 1st, 1962 for their audition for Decca Records, which took place in London. During this session, Pete Best was on the drums making an erratic beat, but with Paul singing a vocal line that's better than the released album version in my opinion. Though failing the Decca audition, the four recorded the track three times with the BBC, then preparing them to record it finally for their second album. The first real attempt was done in EMI studios on July 18th, 1963 with Ringo on his full kit. The song was held off a few days till the 30th now with Ringo on bongos. Five takes were completed using take number 8 as the final recording.
The instrumentation is just fabulous in this song. J-160E & Jose Ramirez classical... such a great combo, plus the bongos? Great... The classical lead guitar playing throughout the song is just a blast to play, it fits in so well; nice job George! John also has an odd strumming pattern throughout the song as it changes several times, but it is awesome. We tried a new style of mixing this time as well. Crisper sounds, and a slight stereo mix.
