Now a days youngsters from college and freshers have become smarter in facing selection interviews by going through mock interviews and get trained in institutions to face different type of recruiters. The objective is to get selected than to find best fit for your talent. Discovering that you are a misfit after joining inflicts a lot of pain on the candidate and all those who work with him/her. Hence you should constantly up-skill yourself in recruitment to save pain for every one. BehaviourEvent Interview (BEI) is a good method to identify candidates as close as possible to what you expect. New employees have become a lot more non negotiable than before. When there was job shortage during our times (60, 70s and 80s) the new employees were a lot more negotiable, willing to do any task given to them, besides working long hours. Now it is no more the pattern. I find many who are focussed on mobiles, lack depth, unwilling to read, and capabilities developed in one direction but distracted from many directions through the world around. There are also others who are working in some consulting companies willing to slog and end happy to slog 24x7 and keep learning and growing. Hence the need for careful screening. There is also another side of the argument that tends to be more gig-work oriented. Recruit for a skill, give the job and if he/she does not measure up kick the fellow. Quite unlike in the past it does not make much difference for the fellow kicked out as he/she can be now set out to discover some new talent in a new setting.
