How to add BLEED to an existing Illustrator File
Lesson 4
If you already have an Illustrator File and you need to add bleed around your Artboards follow this easy steps:
1. open .AI file
2. File - Document Setup - Add 3mm bleed (0.125 in) - ok
The red frame around your artboards represents your bleed. Now you need to extend your design to the edge of your bleed.
Bleeds are needed for printing because by extending your design elements past the edge of the artboard your file will be properly printed without unwanted white margins.
