How to use the Magic Wand Tool in Illustrator
Today we will talk about the Magic Wand Tool from Adobe Illustrator that helps you select objects with similar appearance attributes such as Fill Color, Stroke Color, Stroke Weight, Opacity and Blending Mode.
You can find Illustrator's Magic Wand tool in the Tools panel, just below the Selection tool. Click the Magic Wand tool icon or press letter Y on your keyboard.
Double-click the Magic Wand Tool to open the Magic Wand dialog box and customize your attributes.
Tolerance Level Explained: 0 means no tolerance, you want the exact fill color selected, the higher this number, the higher the tolerance level, which means Illustrator will start to select other similar colors as well.
The same principle applies to all attributes with tolerance level.
To subtract from the selection, press and hold Alt or Option and click the object containing the attributes you want to subtract.
You can check one or more attributes at the same time and Illustrator will only select objects that have the attributes you selected.
Sadly the Magic Wand Tool doesn't work on live text but we have a work around for this little problem.
For exemple I want to select the text with the same font size so I will go to
Select - Same - Font Size
To better understand how to use this type of selection, play around with the other options as well.
