Lesson 4 - SELECTION TOOL
The selection tool is the most used tool in Adobe Illustrator and you basically use it to select one or more objects, to resize or move them.
To activate it you just need to click on it or use the shortcut V on your keyboard.
1. To select a single object you just need to click on it.
To select multiple objects you have 2 options:
drag a marques around the objects you want to select
Hold the "Shift" Key while selecting the objects you want
To deselect an object click outside of it. If you selected multiple objects and you want to deselect just a few of them, hold the "SHIFT" key and click on the objects you want to deselect.
To select an element in a group, double click to open the group. You will notice a new menu bar on the top and the fact that the space around your group is now greyed out.
To exit the isolated mode double click outside the group.
If they are groups of elements within a group you can double click until you can select the object you want.
2. To resize an object, drag the handles of its bounding box (hold down the "SHIFT" key if you want to maintain the proportions)
3. CLICK + Drag to move an object freely in another location
holding down the "SHIFT" key while dragging an object will constrain the movement horizontally, vertically or at a 45 degree angle
If you want to duplicate an object hold the "ALT" key while dragging
Right-clicking on a selected object gives you more options. We'll talk more about that in the future.
