Police clash with protesters in Kenya
Kenyan police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters in the capital Nairobi and other cities on Tuesday (June 25) as thousands rallied nationwide against proposed tax hikes championed by President William Ruto's government.

Demonstrations spread to towns like Mombasa and Kisumu after an online youth movement opposing Ruto's tax plans morphed into a major challenge. Protesters also called for Ruto's resignation, accusing him of reneging on pledges to champion the working poor after he won the presidency in 2022.
