Firefighters are mounting a search and rescue operation after a blaze broke out overnight at a block of flats with “known” safety issues.
Two people have been taken to hospital and 100 people were evacuated after fire engulfed the building in Dagenham, east London.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said it was carrying out a “significant search and rescue operation” after being called to Freshwater Road at 2.44am on Monday. At about 7.30am, the fire service said the blaze was producing heavy smoke and advised residents to keep windows and doors closed.
