Early year circuses in America were revolutionized by PT Barnum and William Coup who launched their circus and freak show in the in 1800s. Barnum and coop found a way to commercialize the circus on a massive scale! With enormous tents and many acts of acrobatics and animals. The Barnum circus also included a so called “freak show” with many human oddities of the day. Travelling by rail the circus could reach a new city to perform in every day, making the circus business a highly lucrative trade.
