Seaweed facts and information
We have some amazing facts for your today. The worlds oceans cover 71 percent of the earths surface and because of this its not surprising that 80 percent of the life on our planet is actually found in the ocean. Amazingly, seaweed and microscopic algae make up to 90 percent of all plant like life on the planet earth.
But is seaweed really a plant? Not so much. Seaweed scientists have informed us that they are actually algae and differ from plants as they don’t have a complex root system but they do photosynthesize which means that they need the sun for their survival despite living their life in the deep blue sea. Despite not being a plant, it is widely agreed that green seaweed gave rise to non ocean plants many years ago.
As humans we actually need the seaweed more than you might think. You might have heard that oxygen comes from plants like trees, but did you know that 70 percent of the worlds oxygen supply comes from the seaweeds? Wow! These seaweed facts are amazing!
