The Rhino or rhinoceros is a massive mammal and the second largest land animal in the world. The only land animal larger is the enormous elephant. Rhinos can grow to a massive size up 6 feet tall and 11 feet long. The word Rhino comes from the Latin language and is translated roughly to mean “nose horn”.
The rhino is truly an ancient best with its origins being traced back 50 million years. It is thought that a prehistoric hornless version of this creature grew up to 16 feet tall. These Ancient rhinos were woolly and have been depicted in early human cave paintings dating back 30 thousand years. The woolly rhino species died out around 10 thousand years ago and today there are 5 species of the rhinoceros that roam the earth.
The black Rhino, The white Rhino, Sumatran, Javan and the Indian Rhino. Im really not sure how they came up with the names for the black and white Rhino, according to our research both of these are actually grey in colour.
