"I used to write graffiti, and graffiti is about condensing your entire life into a single word, then repeating that word in as many ways as possible until it fills years, like the days on a calendar. When I transitioned from writing graffiti to making art, I went from focusing on one word to exploring the rest of them. Words hold power, but in an era where people read less, evident from the proliferation of emojis as a language, I combine words and images to depict the world. I create paintings as if they were originally crafted in a dark cave by someone with limited resources, driven to record what com- pels them to be shared. Although I have more resources and data, the darkness persists, and I am compelled to illuminate it through my art." — Stephen Powers.
