Barry McGee uses improvisation as a guiding principle in all his work. From bold graphic paintings with a folk art-like quality to the throw-ups he created using a flathead screw- driver as TWIST, a crucial figure in the graffiti movement, McGee's works celebrate the diversity and distinctive characteristics of his urban surroundings and beloved inner-city neighborhoods.
His inspiration stems from the seemingly random nature of graffiti, the incessant uploading of images on the internet, and the creative styles of misfits. McGee's works balance the wild and bold essence of graffiti and collaboration, creating an environment where viewers are immersed in his unique vision.
