Inside of many Medieval castles are dungeons. These were cells which were awful and where much punishment and torture occurred inside of. But the most feared dungeon was the Oubliette. This was a prison dungeon in which a prisoner was simply just left to die and forgotten about. They were so small that a prisoner would be forced to crouch for 24 hours a day as they could not sit down or stand up as the walls were too enclosed. Also inside the oubliette were usually the remains of the prisoner who went before, and it was incredibly claustrophobic.

Being locked inside the oubliette was terrifying, and some of the most famous dungeons like this can be found at Warwick Castle, and there was allegedly one at the Tower of London called Little Ease. In this cell, it's believed Guy Fawkes was even imprisoned. But the oubliette was one of the worst prisons in history!
