If there is one hazard we can always count on it's barbed wire fencing.
Flying-foxes are commonly trapped on barbed wire and so it was for brave Betsy who was rescued by Kat last week.
Covered in bat flies which are species specific parasites, bat flies carry their own mites which you may be able to see if you look closely around the 57 second mark.
Although unpleasant, they are not a priority for an animal brought in following barbed wire entrapment as fluids and rest come first.
Betsy has settled into care and once her injuries heal, she'll be released back to the wild.
