Large aperture netting is responsible for the maiming and death of so many native species including, birds, possums, bats and even snakes.
But the world is changing and we now have many choices when it comes to protecting your backyard fruit trees.
Miss Manders was recently rescued by Aiden after being tightly bound in large aperture netting which has since been removed and replaced with wildlife friendly netting.
Miss Manders is likely pregnant and she will be in care for a while but thankfully, she will be released back to the wild before her baby is born.
Only use netting that you can't poke a finger through but if you do catch a flying-fox, please remember not to touch but to call your local wildlife rescue organisation and a volunteer will come and safely and humanely rescue the bat.
