The father of the Sydney shopping centre attacker has said he is "extremely sorry".
Andrew Cauchi, father of Joel Cauchi, who killed six people on Saturday at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction, said he was "heartbroken" for the victims.
Detectives are investigating whether the Sydney knife attacker deliberately targeted women when he went on the rampage in a shopping centre.
Five of the six people killed, and the majority of those being treated in hospital for injuries, were female and police confirmed that a gender-based motivation was “certainly a line of inquiry”. Anthony Albanese, the Australian prime minister, said the number of female victims was “concerning”.
