GSACRD - Literacy Program
Historically, literacy has been taught in schools but was not supported by reading research. Statistics are showing that an increasing number of kids in Alberta are not reading at their grade level, which leads to further struggling throughout their school lifetime. At GSACRD, we believe that children who are confident in their reading skills are more eager to read on their own, develop more confidence in themselves, and go on to achieve their goals.
GSACRD offers a specialized literacy program for students who need a different approach to learning language. This program pares down the structure and sounds of letters and letter combinations, and helps students understand these smaller parts of words. Through a deeper understanding of why letters make certain sounds, students can develop better reading comprehension.
On average, students who have taken part in this program have earned eighteen months of academic growth in just five months. Over 80% of students within the program have improved their reading skills overall.
