The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us to adopt more automated technologies. To minimize the risk of virus exposure, one approach is implementing hands-free technique even when reaching for the hand sanitizer or soap.
Years ago, Lysol soap bottles were bundled with a free automatic dispenser. It is designed without recharging capability and is instead powered by three replaceable AA batteries. Moreover, the soap bottles are designed for a single use and cannot be refilled – you purchase the profit-generating refill bottles separately. Thus, I do not use the product regularly but collected (and stored away) several dispensers when the soap bottles were on sale.
This project is taking the dispensers from storage and improving upon the lacking features, including a conversion to be rechargeable or permanently powered by USB. Also, the bottles can be modified to be refillable with any cleaning solution. This video is a time-lapse presentation of the DIY process.
