Do you have a portable vacuum that lacks a battery status indicator and frequently stops in the middle of a clean?

I had an early model Dyson vacuum (maybe pre-2012?) with the original battery on its last legs. After use, the vacuum is placed randomly throughout my home so it is not always docked at its charger or fully charged. As a result, power may suddenly cut in the middle of the next clean.

Also, I find all models lack a good battery level indicator – a design feature Dyson surprisingly overlooked for a long time, therein lies an opportunity to restore and improve the equipment.

For this DIY project, I installed a new Lithium-ion battery pack that supposedly offers 50% more capacity than the original. I also fitted an LCD meter that monitors battery voltage, percentage level and temperature. I can now easily gauge when the battery is low and needs charging. I noticed a 1% remaining display translates to about 1 minute left of operation.

This project was completed several years ago before the start of this YouTube channel, so I have limited photos and footage for this video. I hope it still inspires other DIY’ers to try it out.
