Real Industry is a non-profit founded in 2014, focused on helping college students navigate their way to their careers. Students who have participated in our programs have gone on to lead music productions, manage artists, design content, develop hardware and code software. In 2019, we shifted our focus to serve the needs of students of color, whose background, income, and zip code may have created alternate pathways to this work.
But, inequities in our nation were further surfaced during COVID. And given everything that's happened in the world, we're double-clicking on the experience of African-American college students. We've designed a custom curriculum for predominantly white institutions (PWIs) to better support their students. In the words of one student, the program, "uncovered my roots and fortified my identity."
And we're training allies who want to know how to hold the door open for others. Donors who give $1K or more will be invited to join the next cohort as a learner and mentor. Racial justice is a critical issue, and we must not forget our commitment to this work.
